Go With the Average Ring Size

The easiest solution is to simply buy the average ring size. This has the benefit of being the most common size, increasing the chances that it will fit. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that it will fit perfectly. If the ring is too small, it can be difficult (although not impossible) to resize it.

Go Big, Resize Later

Resizing rings is tricky, but it can be done. It is much easier to decrease the size than increase it. That means it’s usually better to buy a ring that is too large than to risk the ring being too small. With this method, you will almost certainly have to resize it.

However, this is less risky than buying the average, since you know the ring won’t be too small. It won’t be perfect at first, but it is easily correctable, so buying a larger ring is usually a good investment.

If you don’t want to guess her ring size, there are ways to figure it out. One simple solution is to use other jewelry as a baseline. Does she already have rings in her jewelry box?

Try tracing one onto a sheet of paper and measuring it. This is a simple way to accurately estimate ring size. Do this while she is sleeping or out of the house and it will be easy to keep things a secret.
